Iconic electronic music artist and technology visionary RICHIE HAWTIN today (Oct 4) announces Belgian electronic music artist and one of the fastest rising stars in today’s techno scene AMELIE LENS will join him as support for his only North American show this year of CLOSE – his award-winning audio-visual show set at Brooklyn’s Avant Gardner in New York City on Saturday, December 8. The event is produced by OUTPOST Events.
“I first heard Amelie at ADE last year. I thought the best way to see if she was any good was to go on the dancefloor and dance, which I did.  I couldn’t see her from where I was and was sucked into the music she was playing –  a mix of old and new strong techno records, tough but not hard, fast and throbbing which was hypnotic and energized,” states RICHIE HAWTIN“Honestly, it was really refreshing to hear a Techno set that wasn’t too abrasive and didn’t make you feel like you should be marching instead of dancing. It was definitely intense, but there was an underlying groove that made it fun and infectious.”
“As a young artist it really impresses me how Richie keeps innovating and reinventing himself. He keeps finding new ways to express himself and in my opinion that is exactly why he has been on the top of the scene since so many years,” adds AMELIE LENS. “Always looking for more, always looking to do better. To me he is a legend, a true inspiration and I’m honored to be involved in this project.”
HAWTIN’s show, CLOSE – SPONTANEITY AND SYHNCHRONICITY, explores the relationship between human creativity and the innovative technologies that enable an artist to express themselves. The show was voted Best Live Performance at the Ibiza DJ Awards this year and Best Live Performance 2017 at the DJ Awards. Having debuted the concept at Coachella followed by shows at Primavera Sound, ADE and Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera HouseCLOSE opens up the DJ booth for a transparent masterclass in Spontaneity & Synchronicity. It represents how far the art of DJing can be pushed today, thanks to a completely improvised performance which means no two shows are the same.
In recent years, HAWTIN’s pioneering work has crossed over into artistic and cultural fields, collaborating with Anish Kapoor – one of the most influential sculptors working today – at the Grand Palais in Paris; performing live as Plastikman at the Guggenheim in New York for fashion designer Raf Simons; and creating soundscapes to the photographic work of Andreas Gursky at the Gagosian in New York and K20 in Dusseldorf. HAWTIN‘s electronic productions and DJ sets make him one of the most respected artists to emerge from the early 1990s techno scene.
The Great Hall at Avant Gardner is the quintessential Brooklyn industrial warehouse, that’s anything but. A massive and soaring space equipped with KV2 Audio’s VHD5.0 sound system, customizable rigging capabilities and fully programmable lighting fixtures built to immerse attendees in the ultimate show experience.

The Brooklyn Mirage Launches Mirage Cinema Series

New York’s premier outdoor venue, The Brooklyn Mirage, located in the industrial enclave of East Williamsburg, is pleased to announce the launch of the Mirage Cinema series on Thursday, July 19 from 6pm-1am with the cult classic “Dazed and Confused.” Transforming the sprawling multi-level oasis into a state-of-the-art outdoor cinema complete with stunning visuals, impeccable sound, and one of the largest film screens to ever hit Brooklyn, the evening promises to be a great way to unwind after work with friends and family over a variety of fun-filled activities complimented by delicious food and wine.

Kicking off with the coming-of-age cult classic “Dazed and Confused,” the 1993 hit is a nostalgia-drenched ode to summer vacation and high school memories starring a young Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck. As doors open at 6pm, a pre-film cocktail hour will be soundtracked by some of New York’s finest DJs presenting music inspired by the film before it starts at 8:30pm, followed by an ice cream social after party hosted by Brooklyn favorites Van Leeuwen.

With a plethora of food and beverage choices, Mirage Cinema will satisfy all palates. From cheese and charcuterie, hot dogs, burgers, Neapolitan pizza, nachos, tacos, popcorn, and candy alongside a full cocktail menu, carafes of wine and specialty frozen drinks, moviegoers will be impressed by the vast array of options available. Rounding out the evening’s entertainment will be a “Dazed and Confused” themed interactive photo booth from Nicky Digital as well as trivia to test ticketholders’ film knowledge projected before the film on the big screen. Also offering a variety of ticketing options from general admission through to VIP packages that include premium viewing from one of the venue’s priority vantage points, luxe seating, wine and charcuterie, the Mirage Cinema caters to every budget and taste.

Converting the impressive 18,000 square foot tropical courtyard into a truly unique outdoor viewing experience, the launch marks the first in the Mirage Cinema series, with the remaining films set to screen every second Thursday over the summer. Providing padded folded chairs in the front and picnic tables in the back, alongside intimate premium viewing areas for couples or larger groups, guests will be able to lounge underneath the palm trees and marvel at the 360-degree video mapping.
